| Nicholas Ruiz III, Democratic Party Candidate for Congress in Florida District 24, on Lowering the Retirement Age for Social Security to 55 (Press Release) - January 2, 2011 In 2009-2010, I campaigned with a platform that included the concept of lowering the retirement age for Social Security to 55 years of age. I continue with that notion for 2011-2012. I described the concept in the congressional debate for Florida district 24 in 2010 (clip 1): Lowering the retirement eligibility age is a long overdue upgrade to the U.S. Social Safety Net. It will also create jobs. We are making progress toward such a goal as the idea is gaining traction among progressive Democrats and the national media. MSNBC's Countdown and Robert Reich discussed the idea on December 28th, 2010 (clip 2): Put a progressive Democrat in Congress. |
