Nicholas Ruiz III is currently listed as a 'write-in' candidate for U.S.
Representative on the Florida Division of Elections website. On
election day, voters in Florida District 24 who want to vote for Nicholas
Ruiz III will need to write the name "Nicholas Ruiz III" in the blank
space provided on the ballot for U.S. Representative.

We are working on achieving full ballot access, so that Nicholas Ruiz III
will appear on the ballot as a voter choice, rather than a blank space
wherein the voter must fill in the name. We believe the ballot access
restrictions in Florida are unconstitutional. We will update this site as
more information is available regarding the ballot status.

Dr. Ruiz was born in New York City in 1970 and lives in New Smyrna
Beach, FL, USA. He is the author of America in Absentia (2008),
Integral Reality (with Robert Hassan, forthcoming, 2010) and The
Metaphysics of Capital, (2006).  He is also the editor of Kritikos.

We have written an open letter to the FL Secretary of State,
requesting that the ballot access restrictions be waived upon
submission of the Affidavit of Undue Burden.

Our reasoning behind this request is that the idea or spirit of an
'alternative' ballot access restriction, be it a petition, fee or otherwise,
suggests that the two ballot access restrictions are not so similar that
there is not truly a difference between the available methods of ballot
access. The petition restriction is so abnormally high in Florida, and
petitions, which are rarely collected by congressional candidates, are
generally fulfilled by hiring firms that charge approximately $2 per
signature. In effect, Florida only has one congressional ballot access
restriction - an unusually large cash fee of approximately $10,000.
